!The Challenge
Vroeg is a restaurant, bakery, and local shop in Bunnik, The Netherlands. Known for its artisan food and hospitality, Vroeg also offers curated seasonal gifts such as Easter and Christmas bundles. As part of their growth strategy, Vroeg wanted to expand their online sales—especially for gift bundles during peak seasons. However, Shopify's standard product and shipping tools didn't support the complex bundling logic and shipping rules they needed. The primary challenges were creating mix-and-match bundles that customers could customize while maintaining accurate pricing, differentiating shipping options where Christmas bundles required courier delivery only while regular items should support store pickup and shipping, and ensuring backend clarity as many bundles weren't tracked as inventory products.
The Solution
Using Shopify alongside third-party tools, the project delivered a tailored bundling and shipping solution. Key implementations included a Bundle App integration to create standalone gift bundles and mix-and-match sets that act as individual products, metafields and product tags to mark bundle types and trigger custom behavior, a custom setup in the Bird Delivery App for regional courier delivery rules using postcode wildcards and product tags, shipping profiles that excluded bundles from general delivery options, and dynamic messaging in the cart alerting users about delivery restrictions.
